Slavia Prague 0 Arsenal 0 PDF Print E-mail

It took 2 minutes 15 seconds before Salvia Prague got possesion of the ball in Arsene Wenger's 100th Champions League match, and that really was the tale of the first half. Slavia Prague we so cautious for the firth half and hour that they were scared to come out of their own half and Arsenal were prepared to just sit on the ball and keep the ball and the 60% possession said it all.

Slavia started to realise that they were snuffing out the threat of Walcott and Arsenal were not playing perhaps at the same level of their previous encounter last month so they started to come out of their own half  on the 30 minute mark and to have some small success as they started to get at Arsenal a bit,  in fact had the better chances, an unchallanged header and a well tipped over shot as Almunia lambasted Song who seemed to still be the cause for most of the Slavia pressure.

At halftime the heavens opened and continued for the entire second half, Slavia obviously had a good halftime teamtalk where as Arsenal just on relied on Arsene's famous non teamtalk and self contemplation,  Slavia came out of the tunnel with a lot more belief and a determination to shut us down and to stop us playing which was their game plan and it worked very well indeed as Arsenal seemed to be losing the ball on a regular basis.

The main thorn in our side was Senkerik who was the spitting image of Bolton's Kevin Davis, and had the same attributes, there were no real shots on goal until the 74th minute when Senkerik was one on one with Almunia, however Almunia was up to the task and make the decisive save to keep the clean sheet.

Adebayor came on for Bendtner in the 77th minute and three minutes later Eboue replaced Eduardo and it did inject a bit of pace into the game but we still had to wait until the 85th minute for the Slavia goalkeeper to make his first save in the entire match.

There was 5 minutes of injury time which in all honestly was not really needed as it never looked like anyone could score in a brothel, which is quite some statment when you consider where the match was being played.

This was the first time Arsenal had failed to find the back of net this season, ironically against the team they set their Ashburton Grove scoring record against, however credit to Slavia Prague for a massive performance and a more than deserved point, this point could actually work in Arsenal's favour as it will keep Slavia going for the wins in their remaining matches which could mean a point from Seville to ensure Arsenal go through as so called Champions of their respective group.

Yes we had qualified for the knockout stage with the point gained tonight, however 3 points would have ensured the easier route. The booking count was 4 - 1 to Slavia with Diarra the Arsenal culprit , however he was also probably man of the match as well.

Team

Almunia, Diaby, Diarra, Eduardo, Gallas, Denilson, Song, Gilberto, Clichy, Bendtner, Walcott
